CLF initiates free treatment for HCV positive patients from February 15, 2013.
CLF (Children's Liver Foundation) in collaboration with INASL (Indian Association of the Study of the Liver) and Think Foundation undertook a study to find out the incidence of Hepatitis B and C among children suffering with Thalassemia. The rates of this infection from our initial findings were very alarming. Most of these patients are very young and are increasingly under the risk of getting life threatening complications because of these infections.
CLF undertook the medical evaluation of these kids to determine the suitability to start treatment. Various options to provide support to these kids were evaluated.
The treatment was initiated from February, 2013. Laboratory tests for HCV were provided free of cost to all the patients being screened. First batch five patients to undergo treatment was shortlisted.
Treatment is supported through the social grant, received from Roche products India Pvt. Ltd.
Treatment began with an in depth counselling session for patients and their parents. Medical treatment was started in subsequent week.
Next batch of patients for starting treatment is being screened currently.
