Epidemiology and natural history of hepatitis C virus infection among children and young people.
Modin L1, Arshad A2, Wilkes B3, Benselin J3, Lloyd C2, Irving WL3, Kelly DA2.

Abstract

BACKGROUND:
Chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection is a global health burden. Although HCV infection rarely contributes to morbidity during childhood, the majority of HCV infected children develop chronic HCV with a lifetime risk of liver disease. Little is known about the development of long-term liver disease and treatment effect in patients infected with HCV in childhood.

Ruzman L1, Mikolasevic I2, Baraba Dekanic K3, Milic S2, Palcevski G3.

Abstract

BACKGROUND:
Chronic liver diseases (CLD) present important clinical problem in children with various age-dependent causes. Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) with its increasing prevalence is a major problem with regard to its timely recognition and the need for long-term disease monitoring. At present, a perfect non-invasive method for the evaluation of liver fibrosis is not available.

An 8-Year-Old Girl with Autoimmune Hepatitis Following Aplastic Anemia.
Nishigori A1, Hatori T2, Asano T1.

Abstract

We herein report a case of severe aplastic anemia diagnosed in an 8-year-old girl with a previous diagnosis of autoimmune hepatitis. We found significantly increased CD8+ and CD68+ cell numbers in her bone marrow, which can induce severe organ damage, refractory to immunosuppressive therapy.
