Abstract

BACKGROUND:
Infants born to hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) positive mothers are at a higher risk for Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. Host genetic background plays an important role in determining the strength of immune response to vaccination. We conducted this study to investigate the association between Tumor necrosis factor (TNF) and Mitogen-activated protein kinase eight (MAPK8) polymorphisms and low response to hepatitis B vaccines.

Liver transplant score for prediction of biliary atresia patients' survival following Kasai procedure.Gunadi1, Gunawan TA2, Widiyanto G2, Yuanita A2, Mulyani NS3, Makhmudi A2.

Abstract

OBJECTIVES:
Recently, a scoring system has been developed to predict which patients with biliary atresia (BA) who underwent a Kasai procedure should be considered for liver transplant. Here, we applied the scoring system to predict the survival of BA patients following the Kasai procedure at Dr. Sardjito Hospital, Yogyakarta, Indonesia from January 2012 to January 2016.

Abstract

BACKGROUND:
Doppler ultrasonography (Doppler US) plays an important role in evaluating patients with liver cirrhosis. This study aims to investigate the hemodynamic alterations of hepatic artery and portal vein among children with liver cirrhosis and portal hypertension (esophageal varices).

Prevalence of celiac disease among pediatric patients with cryptogenic cirrhosis and effect of gluten-free-diet.Joshi A, Falodia S, Kumar N, Gupta P, Khatri PC.

Abstract

BACKGROUND:
Liver involvement in celiac disease (CD) is classified into autoimmune and cryptogenic. The association between CD and autoimmune liver diseases like autoimmune hepatitis, primary biliary cirrhosis, and primary sclerosing cholangitis is well-established; however, the data on patients with cryptogenic cirrhosis, particularly from India, are scanty. So we did this study to find the prevalence of CD in patients with cryptogenic cirrhosis.

Abstract

INTRODUCTION:
Choledochal cyst (CDC) is often associated with intrahepatic stones (IHSs) in children which necessitate their removal during excision. The endoscopic equipment needed for their clearance such as paediatric flexible cholangioscope and other advanced modalities are not freely available in resource-poor setups. We describe per-operative modified rigid cholangioscopy using rigid paediatric cystoscope for stone removal during open CDC excision.

Abstract

BACKGROUND:

Validated noninvasive biomarkers to assess treatment response in pediatric nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) are lacking. We aimed to validate alanine aminotransferase (ALT), a monitoring biomarker for change in liver histology.
