Abstract

BACKGROUND:
Stenosis of the portal vein (PV) is a rare complication after liver transplantation (LT) in pediatric patients and it adversely affects outcomes. We reviewed the safety and efficacy of percutaneous transhepatic balloon angioplasty (PTBA) as a treatment for post-LT late-onset portal vein stenosis (PVS).

METHODS:
318 patients between the ages of 0-21 years received a LT from 2001 to 2016 at this tertiary center. 21 children were evaluated for PVS using percutaneous portal venography.

Abstract

OBJECTIVES:
The aim of this study was to assess the relationship between maternal viral load and mother-to-childtransmission (MTCT) risk in HBeAg-positive mothers.

METHODS:
PubMed and Web of Science were systematically searched. We compared MTCT incidence between maternal hepatitis B virus (HBV) DNA positive and negative group. We also examined the dose-response effect of this relationship.

Abstract

OBJECTIVES:
Living donor liver transplantation (LDLT) in patients with acute liver failure (ALF) has become an acceptable alternative to transplantation from deceased donors (DDLT). The aim of this study was to analyze outcomes of LDLT in pediatric patients with ALF based on our center's experience.

Abstract

BACKGROUND:
Gaucher disease type 1 (GD1, OMIM# 230800), is a condition with high impact in patient's quality of life (QoL). We report the improvement in QoL of children with GD1 measured by Lansky play-performance scale (LS) after enzymatic replacement therapy (ERT) and to describe our experience in the treatment of children with GD1.

Abstract

BACKGROUND:
Histologically, nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) is categorized into adult-type (type 1) and pediatric-type (type 2). The origination of the histological difference between the two types and how they differ clinically remain uncertain. We aimed to understand the incidence and clinical characteristics of the two types of NASH in Korean children, and to investigate the association between their pathological type and clinical characteristics, using anthropometric and laboratory data.
