Abstract

OBJECTIVES:
The aim of the study was to evaluate efficacy of nutrition and physical activity interventions in the clinical management of paediatric nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. The prevalence of paediatric nonalcoholic fatty liver disease continues to rise alongside childhood obesity. Weight loss through lifestyle modification is currently first-line treatment, although supplementation of specific dietary components may be beneficial.

Abstract

OBJECTIVE:
To analyze the magnetic resonance imaging findings in children diagnosed with neurologic complications after liver transplantation (LT).

MATERIALS AND METHODS:
A total of 39 patients diagnosed with neurologic complications following LT between 2010 and 2016. Neuroradiologic imaging was performed using cranial magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Descriptive statistics regarding age, gender, type of complication, diagnostic and therapeutic modalities were calculated and presented as number and percentage.

OBJECTIVES: The aim of the study was to analyze the institution's experience in ultrasound-guided liver biopsies performed on children and identify risk factors for complications, following a previous study performed in our institution.

METHODS: Retrospective analysis of a consecutive series of ultrasound-guided pediatric liver biopsies, between 2011 and 2016. Demographic and anthropometric data, biopsy indications, international normalized ratio (INR) and platelet count, biopsy technique, complications, and pathologic outcomes were recorded.

Abstract

OBJECTIVE:
To analyze the outcome of hepatoblastoma (HB) patients presenting with post treatment extent of disease (POST-TEXT) stages III and IV after neoadjuvant chemotherapy.

BACKGROUND:
Primary liver transplantation has been advocated as surgical treatment for children with HB involving 3 or 4 sectors at diagnosis. However, in some cases, tumors seem resectable after chemotherapy through aggressive use of nontransplant surgical procedures.

Abstract

OBJECTIVES:Small for gestational age (SGA) is associated with an increased risk of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Our aim was to investigate the correlation of birthweight with the severity of liver damage in a large cohort of children with NAFLD.

Abstract

OBJECTIVE:
To investigate the relationship between immune parameters and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) in obese children.

DESIGN:
Case-control study.

SETTING:
Zhejiang Province, China on July to September 2015.

PARTICIPANTS:
A total of 117 obese children and 209 healthy non-obese children were studied as the obese and control groups. Depending on the severity of NAFLD, the obese group was divided into subgroups 1 (without NAFLD), 2 (with simple fatty liver) and 3 (with steatohepatitis).

MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES:
Glucose metabolism, lipid metabolism and immune parameters.
